Use of EB3 and taillights

Our layout is managed by a number of EB3 DCC circuit breakers by NCE combined with simple automotive taillight bulbs. The idea is the bulb doubles as an indicator of a short and as a power bleed so sound decoders don't make the breaker think there is a short in the power disctrict while turning the power back on.

Eb3 bypass light mounting

Here is a picture of our mounting of the light bulbs. They are placed just above the background. The mounting was simply drilling the holes for a tight fit by the lamp bulbs. The bayonet tabs help to keep the bulbs in place. I used 1157 bulbs but wired to the two lead buttons onthe back of the bulb as much easier to solder to than the side of the bulb. This also gives you only 300mA or so of current bypass, so concern of current going into a true short is very limited.

If I need to make new ones, I would suggest spacing the bulbs further apart as it is hard to see which is which from the other side of the room.

Here is how I mounted the EB3 cards. This mounting has two cards off the same booster. The safety cover was removed so better show the details. It's just 1/8" plexiglass and the standoff's are wood. Here is a closeup of the combined board and cover standoff.
